I’ve spent my summer working with superheroes

This year, I finally managed to do something that has been on my bucket list for years: Going to America.

For many reasons, I never thought such a thing would be possible for me but my wish came true in the best way.

This summer, I worked as a counsellor at Shady Oaks, a disability camp in Homer Glen, Illinois.

I never thought I’d be right for such a job but my experience has been an unforgettable one.

I can only describe the campers, regardless of whether or not I worked with them personally, as superheroes.

Why superheroes?

Because these amazing people have the most important and most valuable power in the world, they can put the bad things aside, put a smile on their face and have an amazing attitude to life.

I feel like the campers, their families and their carers have saved me and gave me a reason to live, knowing that such pure and overwhelming positivity exists.

I feel so proud and privileged to have worked with an amazing group of campers, families and staff.

Everyone at Shady Oaks is a superhero! Thank you
